The Isle au Haut thoroughfare at
low tide. Many people seem to have a preference for high
water. I agree that high tide has its charm (and certainly
smells better than low!), but I have always preferred
the ebb tide.
The shores are ripe for exploring
when the tide is out; this is when crabs and starfish
are most easily found and the island's tidepools are exposed.
Clam digging and gathering mussels are low tide activities,
although fishing for mackerel and pollock seems to be
most productive when the tide is nearly full.
