Ahh ...September. One of the nicest
months to be on the island. The summer people have gone,
the day-trippers are considerably fewer, and the weather
is still mild and agreeable. Not to imply that summer
visitors aren't appreciated (for the most part), but the
island as a whole tends to breathe a sigh of relief at
the end of tourist season.
The lobstermen are still working
their traps; not quite time to busy themselves with the
hard work of taking up their gear (most will keep hauling
until November), the hardwood trees are beginning to show
their fall colors, and winter is still distant enough
to be little cause for concern. Yet.
