This snow crab was caught in a lobster trap in about 300 feet of water about 2 miles southwest of the island. Snow crabs are not very common in this area; if they were, we'd fish for them! The leg span of this one was about 18 inches. Snow crab legs are delicious but owing to the rarity of this specimen I opted to release him rather than make a meal of him.
The name "snow crab" is actually a trade name. Technically, this is a spiny spider crab.
